Our guest speaker for this meeting will be LeVelle Moton, the Head Coach for Men’s Basketball at North Carolina Central University. Moton is the winningest coach in NCCU’s history, taking over the program at his alma mater in 2009. A 1996 graduate of NCCU with a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, Moton became the school’s third all-time leading scorer with 1,714 points during his historic hardwood career as an Eagle from 1992-96, earning the nickname “Poetry `n Moton.”
Among NCCU’s all-time career leaders, Moton ranks first in 3-point field goals made (213 of 529), third in scoring (1,714 points), fifth in free throws made (363 of 467), eighth in assists (278), and eighth in field goals made (569 of 1,159).
As Head Coach, Moton has led NCCU to 4 NCAA tournaments and 1 NIT appearance, 4 MEAC regular season champions (2014, 2015, 2017, 2020) and 4 MEAC Tournament Championships (2014, 2017, 2018, 2019).
Moton is the CEO and Founder of the Velle Cares Foundation, whose mission is to serve and assist community-based organizations that promote health, education, and life skills for children and family in at-risk situations. He hosts notable annual events such as the ‘Back to School Community Day Event’ and the ‘Single Mother Salute’, to enrich and give back to his community. Moton presents awards of Courage, Strength, Perseverance, and a “Single Mother of the Year” award named after his mother Hattie McDougald. He is also a co-founder of “Raleigh Raised Development,” which is currently developing 18 affordable-housing homes in Raleigh.
